Press Releases 2016
In 2016, significant steps were taken towards shark conservation. At the annual International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas meeting, nations agreed on limits for blue shark catches in the North Atlantic. Conservationists celebrated the listing of several shark species under CITES, which now protects them from trade. The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization also adopted a stronger shark finning ban. Efforts continue in the Canary Islands to protect the critically endangered Angelshark, highlighting the collaboration of divers, scientists, and governments.
