Challenge of the Deep – the 60th Anniversary of Don Walsh’s Trip to the Mariana Trench

Sixty years ago, Don Walsh and his team made a historic dive to the Mariana Trench using the Trieste. This was the first successful manned trip to the deepest part of the ocean and back. The journey involved overcoming many challenges, such as turmoil and the unique use of gasoline-filled metal balloons. It also provided insights into the science of deep-sea diving and showcased some terrifying moments from their descent into the deep.
